Turkey e-Visa is a travel document for foreigners intending to visit Turkey by land, sea, or air. An e-Visa is a digital form of visa to replace traditional sticker or stamped visa. After filling form online, the e-Visa is sent to traveler’s email directly which can be presented to border officials as a hardcopy or softcopy.
If your country is not on visa-exemption list, you need visa to enter Turkey. Nationals of most countries are eligible to apply for Turkey e-Visa. Some countries are not eligible for e-Visa. Check eligibility criteria above to know what obtains for your country.
Since 2013, Turkish government no longer allow visitors to buy visa at the airport. Each traveler is expected to have applied online for e-Visa in advance of their trip. Because it is now online, travelers can apply for Turkey e-Visa anywhere 24/7 as long as you have internet connection and device to access the website. It is better to apply in advance but urgent applications can also be made at port of entry.
Application is strictly online via the official Turkish government portal for e-Visa run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey. It takes one to three business days to process your application.
You must be a citizen/national of an eligible country which is not visa-exempted or visa-excluded by Turkish government. A passport with at least 180 days validity from the date of intended arrival in Turkey. Valid national ID can be accepted for nationals of some countries. There may be need for supporting document which is often residence permit or valid Schengen, UK, US or Ireland visa.
The Turkish immigration officials can process e-Visas 3 months before indicated arrival date. Based on this, we strongly advise applicants to apply no less than 6 weeks before their date of departure to avoid emergencies. Normal e-Visa application takes 24 – 72 hours to process. If you are caught up in an emergency travel situation, you can go for urgent application which can be processed and confirmed in less than 14 minutes.
Yes. If your country is not on the Turkey visa-exemption list, you (including underage children) will need to apply for e-Visa to enter Turkey. Even if your child is registered in your passport, a separate e-Visa is needed.
No, you cannot change the date on an already approved e-Visa. If your travel itinerary changes, you may need to obtain another e-Visa.
No. You cannot enter Turkey before the date specified on your e-Visa, but you may enter Turkey at a later date than approved on the visa. The date only signify the beginning of the 180-days validity of your e-Visa.
It depends. The frequency of visit varies from country to country, nationals of some countries are only given a single entry e-Visa while nationals of other countries are always granted multiple entry e-Visa. Check the e-Visa eligible countries list in section above to know what nationals of your country are likely to get. When you have a single entry e-Visa, you can only visit Turkey with this document at any one time within the validity period of the e-Visa. If you wish to make another trip after this time, regardless of whether you finished the days you were allowed to spend on your first trip or not, you must apply for another e-Visa. When you have a multiple entry e-Visa, you can visit Turkey as many times as you want with this document as long as it is within the validity period of the e-Visa and you have not overstayed.
Yes. Each traveler must have their own e-Visa to be eligible to enter Turkey provided that nationals of their home country is not visa-exempted. One person can apply for every member of the family or a group that will be traveling together.
A family application where 2 – 10 people are traveling together is allowed. Prerequisite for Turkey e-Visa application must be met by each of the person accompanying (including minors), they must all originate from the same country and their travel document must be same type (normal, official, or diplomatic). One more thing to note is that the intended date of arrival must be the same for each member of the family. After the e-Visa is granted, members of the family may decide to enter Turkey on different day as long as it is within the validity of the e-Visa.
To fill application for family members, the first member will select the Country of travel document, intended date of arrival, and fill up the personal information. Then click “Add a New Person” button to fill information for other members of the family up to 10 people including the first applicant.
A group application where 10 – 300 people are traveling together is allowed. Prerequisite for Turkey e-Visa application must be met by each of the person in the group, they must all originate from the same country and their travel document must be same type (normal, official, or diplomatic). Intended date of arrival must also be the same for each member of the group. After the e-Visa is granted, members of the group may decide to enter Turkey on different day as long as it is within the validity of the e-Visa.
To fill application for group members, the group leader will select the Country of travel document, intended date of arrival, and link to create group application will pop up. The group leader will provide a single valid email address for the group application. Upon receipt of the intention to create a group application, the Turkey Foreign Ministry will send an excel file and user guide to the email address for the application. The group leader then upload the list after which Turkey Foreign Ministry sends a confirmation email with a link that expires within one hour. Payment is made after that and group member’s e-Visas will then be made available for download.
No. A transit areas is a designated area that is established by local authorities for the convenience of passengers who are traveling by connecting two or more countries before arriving at their final destination. An international transit area can be an airport or seaport. As long as a passenger is not leaving the international transit area, s/he do not need to obtain Turkey e-Visa.
According to the Law on Foreigners and International Protection of April 2014, foreigners arriving sea ports and intend to visit the seaport city or nearby attractions for touristic purposes are exempted from visa provided their stay in this area do not exceed 72 hours.
You can reapply for Turkey e-Visa after 180 days of your first entry date into Turkey on your previous e-Visa.
Always ensure you leave Turkey before your e-Visa expires. When your e-Visa expires, you cannot apply for new e-Visa without departing from Turkey. If you still have some things to do in Turkey however, you can apply at Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for a residence permit. Remember that e-Visa is only granted for trade and tourism, overstaying your e-Visa may come with fines, deportation or future travel ban.
For nationals of countries that require supporting documents for e-Visa approval, your visa/residence permit from UK, US, or Ireland must remain valid by the time you intend to enter Turkey. Previously used or unused single-entry visas are accepted as long as their validity date covers your entry date to Turkey. Take note that e-Visas or e-residence permit of any country is not accepted as a valid supporting document.
This is very important question and not everyone will know this. In the section of the e-Visa application portal where you fill your “Personal Information”, you will not find a space for middle name. What you can do is to enter you middle name right after your name in the “Given Name(s)” entry, but make sure a space separates the two.
The method of payment is only online by a debit or credit card, you cannot use any other method. Most successful card payments have been with those that use MasterCard, Visa or UnionPay. These cards have a 3D secure system and accept international transactions. However, if your card is none of these three but meets these criteria, you can use them. If you are unable to make payment after ensuring these, then try at a different time or contact your bank.
No. You can pay with any credit or debit card that is secure and allow international transaction. Only MasterCard, Visa and UnionPay meets these criteria and execute payment successfully for e-Visa on Turkey official portal.
The fee vary based on the country of your travel document and the type of travel document you hold. There is an additional fee if you want your application to be processed urgently.
No. The moment your credit/debit card is successfully charged for e-Visa application, you can no longer get a refund under any guise. Any information mismatch between your e-Visa and travel document renders your approved e-Visa invalid, and you cannot get a refund for it. If information is correct but you realize that you will not be traveling to Turkey again, refund cannot be made for unused e-Visas.
No. Conflicting information on your e-Visa and travel document renders your e-Visa invalid. You have to start a fresh application.
No. Citizens of certain countries are allowed to travel with an airline company that signed a protocol agreement with Turkish Foreign Ministry. Presently, the airline companies that signed the protocol agreement include Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Onur Air and Atlasglobal Airlines. To know if you are from a country bounded by this policy, check earlier section on e-Visa eligible countries list.
If all were done correctly and a valid email was provided, you should receive a confirmation email for successfully submitting your visa application. The email comes with a link to check the status of your application and also to download your e-Visa. If you have waited up to 72 hours without response on the application, the status page will hint you on why and when to contact the visa officials.
No. Once you have completed, submitted and paid for the application, you can no longer withdraw your application. The e-Visa fee also is no longer refundable at this point.
Yes. Holding a Turkey e-Visa does not automatically qualify you to enter into Turkey. The Turkish Immigration officers reserve the right to deny any foreigner entry into Turkey at the port of entry if they have reason to believe they pose any threat to citizens or sovereignty of Turkey.

Application for Turkey e-Visa is processed regardless of your vaccination status. However, travelers from countries that are prone to yellow fever transmission are required to be vaccinated before commencing their visit to Turkey. Countries with high risk of yellow fever transmission are listed in e-Visa eligible countries list section above.
No. Turkey e-Visa is for tourism or trade purposes only. You need to apply physically to the Turkish embassy in your home country and state your purpose of traveling. You need special permission from Turkish relevant authorities in advance of your visit.
