Passport Information
The Passport Law No. 5682 lists down the principles of passport application procedure that is followed by all citizens as dictated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs General Directorate of Security. ICAO in Turkey determined the New Type Passport Application Instruction back in June 2010. Since then, the old-style passport expired in November 2015.
The new electronic passports are made for every Turkish citizen and the application must be made in person. As compared to old passports, e-passports cannot be renewed once the validity expires, the new application has to be made. The general validity of passports is 5 years for those who are under the age of 18 years. For those individuals who are older than 18 years of age, the validity is 10 years.
Application for Citizens Under 18 Years of Age
The applicant has to be present at the Passport Centers at the time of making the passport. Applicants who are under the age of 12 can have their parents sign the form and those who are over 12 years of age are asked to sign the form themselves. The legal guardians, either the mother or the father, have to provide a consent form along with the application form. In the case of a parent missing, the legal custodian of the child is sufficient for the application to proceed. If the child is not registered as a Turkish citizen, a passport cannot be issued unless his or her birth registration is done first.
